Cello Lessons with Adrian

I hope to help students of all ages find joy and explore their creativity through the study of cello. In weekly lessons, students will develop their instrumental technique, aural skills, and understanding of music theory and reading. Whether a student is just starting out or has been playing for years, I hope to enrich their musical life.

About Lessons

Location and Availability

I teach on Sundays and Tuesdays at Metropolitan Music in North Seattle. For inquiries or to set up a free trial lesson, please send me an email at golay.adrian@gmail.com. For availability in South Seattle, see "Meter Music School" at the bottom of this page.

Group Classes and Recital

Lesson tuition includes seven group classes throughout the school year and one recital in the spring. Group class attendance is not mandatory, but highly recommended. Classes are split between adults and youth.

Teaching Approach

My teaching approach is flexible, as each student has a different set of needs and abilities. My aim is to help each student achieve their individual goals with cello-playing, whatever those may be.

For beginning students, I draw largely on the Suzuki Method for repertoire and teaching philosophy. For younger children, parents should be prepared to be involved in lessons as well as home practice.

Tuition and Policies

Rates

Enrollment is on a monthly basis, and tuition payment is requested at the beginning of each month for the lessons that will occur in that month. Tuition is prorated for students starting mid-month. I accept payment through cash, check, or electronic methods (PayPal, Zelle, CashApp, Venmo). The first lesson is always free.

1 hour lesson - $75

45 minute lesson - $59

30 minute lesson - $42.50

Calendar

I use a shared Google Calendar to keep track of lessons. This is shared with all my students to avoid confusion about lesson times.

There are a number of dates each school year when I do not teach. Below are 2025-26 studio holidays:

Sun, 11/30

Sun, 12/21

Tues, 12/23

Sun, 12/28

Tues, 12/30

Sun, 4/5

Sun, 5/24

Cancellation Policy

Playing an instrument involves a commitment to attending lessons consistently. By signing up for lessons, you reserve a regular spot in my teaching calendar that you will be billed for each month.

That being said, conflicts will inevitably arise! Outside of studio holidays, each student gets three weeks of cancellation free of charge for each year.

  • Cancellation credits will reset on September 1.

  • These can be used in any circumstance, no questions asked.

  • This includes summer, so please plan ahead if you anticipate traveling!

  • Tuition will be deducted for that month OR from the following month, if payment for the month affected has already been made. Refunds will not be issued.

  • Students starting their lessons on/after January 1 will get two credits to be used before September 1.

Outside of these cancellation credits, there are a couple options for working around unavoidable conflicts. Here are my policies for different scenarios:

  • If I am informed at least 24 hours in advance, the options are:

    • Reschedule, make-up time, virtual lesson, or cancellation credit

  • If I am informed less than 24 hours in advance for sickness or emergency, the options are:

    • Reschedule, make-up time, virtual lesson, or cancellation credit. Please do not come in if you or your child is sick.

  • If I am informed less than 24 hours in advance for a non-emergency reason, then no reschedule or make-up will be allowed.

If I have to cancel a lesson for my own conflict or sickness, I will do my best to reschedule. If this is impossible, I will deduct tuition for the missed week.

Exceptions to this policy can be made for religious holidays/observance. Please let me know well in advance!!
